Where I’m at

Filed under: Odd Thoughts — Melina Gunnett @ 11:06 PM

If you are following this blog, you might be asking where I’m at?  I’ve been asking the same question.  I haven’t come up with the ultimate answer (42), but I have come up with a few things.

I’m feeling the need to concentrate on writing.  You would think that would mean you would get to see a lot of posts from me, but it doesn’t.  What it means is that I’ve been trying to piece together some of the stories in my mind.  Some are almost ready to go out the door, others still need a lot of work.

I’m getting ready to revisit the book I worked on last year.  It originally was supposed to be a mystery, but turned out more of an action/adventure story.  I do like the way it came out, although it still needs a serious re-write.  Wither or not I want to do enough re-writing to make it into the originally intended mystery, I don’t know.

I do know that it is back on the table, along with another book I’m working on which is still in search of plot.  I have several shorts in the queue also.  A few are mostly done, some just ideas floating around.  I guess what I’m say is that, at least right now I don’t have time to update this daily.  I am going to try to update more often than I have been, but I can’t let this be an all-consuming thing.

Originally I had planned on posting more stories here.  What I’ve found is that, if I want to sell my stories, I need to NOT post them here.   Most places will not accept submissions that have already been printed, even on my blog.  I think I will try to post a few here occasionally, but they will be more of a reader treat than a regular thing.

Instead I’m going to concentrate on using this site for commentary.  I’ll still post my OpEd pieces here.  I’ll still post occasional photos, although I am finding it takes a lot longer to upload and edit them than I had originally thought it would. Average time from camera to post is about an hour, so daily photos aren’t likely to happen.  I would like to do more reviews, but that means time to actually read books.

Basically I’m trying to prioritize my time in hopes of actually getting some things done instead of having several dozen open-ended projects that never get completed.  Eventually I would like to record some of my work and post audio, but I’m not even sure where to start that project.

For now, one thing at a time.

Today I am finishing a story, tomorrow I am going to do a re-write on it.  If you still want to read my stories as they get written, I will be looking for a few beta readers.  Let me know if you are interested and I will add your name to the list.

Hopefully you will catch me again soon, but be prepared, I will always escape again. 😉

Trumpet Day

In honor of our latest scheduled “Judgement Day”

It boggles my mind how people can claim to follow the Bible and still think they know when Judgement Day will happen.  I guess the missed the part where it says “But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

Anyway, here is a poem I wrote many years ago.

Trumpet Day

Fields of yellow flowers flow

beneath the angels wings

Shining brightly, waiting for

The sound the trumpet brings.

A rush of wind blows across the land

Bring all who’ll come.

The light appears and they are gone.

The trumpets have begun.

The darkness comes for all to see

Who chose to stay behind

Havoc and devastation reign

Man is out of time.
